REPLICA

Andrea Peña & Artists

A performative journey, REPLICA is influenced by its creative processes in Naples, Sweden, Norway and Montreal; incompatible realities coexist through visceral bodies that question contemporary obsessions with self-copying.

In the artificial and natural world of REPLICA, performers Frédérique Rodier and Jean-Benoît Labrecque embark on a deep exploration of the history of the replica, delving into the essence of body representation through time. This choreographic odyssey unfolds as a captivating archaeological performance of movement, inspired as much by ancient and mythological reproductions of the human form as by digital self-representations and commercial copies of our environments. Set in a scenographic garden that reveals the complexities and nuances of the human form, the performance transforms into a living, breathing axis mundi - a queer Garden of Eden - a world within worlds that challenges gendered notions of the body; a reflection on utopia and dystopia, and that in-between state where the liminal is viscerally represented on stage.

REPLICA becomes a playground that explores the innocence and corruption woven into the fabric of our collective fascination with copying. In this immersive experience, which transforms the stage into a living canvas, the audience is confronted with pictorial states of transformation, reflecting and disrupting a form of sculptural rigor.
