La marche du crabe
La marche du crabe is a company dedicated to researching and creating live shows for young children and young audiences. It prefers a sensory approach, adapting every aspect of its creations to the needs of its different audiences. Bordering on circus arts, dance and theater, and accompanied by the symbolism of stage props, the company's creations are intimate acts that seek to renew the dialogue between artists and spectators.
La marche du crabe takes it upon itself to address sensitive, unfiltered themes to all audiences, from children to teenagers, adults to seniors. Embracing the unpredictability of the moment, the company orchestrates improvised performances, betting on the execution of an action, its authenticity and the power of its meaning. Its immersive environments, site-specific encounters and performances in close proximity to the audience foster an intimate connection, an emotional and symbolic resonance rooted in the surrounding reality.
In so doing, La marche du crabe nourishes its creative processes with cultural mediation encounters to confront and confirm the direction of the work; from tone to aesthetic, from narrative to staging.
Sandy Bessette
1980s. Sandy twirls in her dresses and choreographs garage entrance shows. From her village community center to UQAM's contemporary dance department, she uses choreographic languages to reach out to others. Her career as a performer combines movement improvisation (Les Explositions, collectif Rien de prévu, compagnie Les Imprudanses) and choral work (Babel et Les Minutes du festival Montréal Complètement Cirque). She specializes in creation for young children in Quebec and Europe (Festivals Petits bonheurs in Montreal, Les Rencontres de Huy in Belgium, Méli-Môme and Petits et grands as well as the companies Point Virgule and En cie d'Eux in France and DynamO Théâtre in Montreal). She first created in tandem the shows Un orteil dans le vide, a play about grief with German wheel artist Marie-Claude Roulez, then Remous remis, a sibling relationship in acrobatic theater with Xavier Malo. Inspired by various human and artistic encounters (Culture et handicap course in France, creative projects in prisons and cultural mediation in underprivileged areas), she directed De doigts et de pied, a sensory experience for toddlers. With Le Mobile, an immersive show for children, she continues to develop her hybrid language between dance, circus and theater, working with the voices of the artists on stage and questioning the relationship with the spectator.
