JOAT Festival

Jack Of All Trades was created in 2014 to inspire broader artistic articulation within Montreal's popping dance community. The organization then set up JOAT Battle, inviting freedom of expression and highlighting the multidisciplinarity that this practice contains. The influence of this dance platform has quickly been felt in the local and international community.

In 2016, JOAT lent its name to its first multidisciplinary local, national and international street dance festival, the main activities of which now take place at Place des Arts for a period of nine days every year. Through its varied programming, the festival promotes street dance and hip-hop artists as well as local diversity, while creating gatherings and exhilarating meet-ups with the international community. It offers an experience to everyone who wants to discover the different facets of street dance and complementary art forms: music, visual arts, cinema, multidisciplinary creations. The festival stands out for the fired-up battles it presents on the Esplanade de la Place des Arts and at Club Soda. We see street dancers coming together in a supercharged atmosphere of friendly confrontations and adrenaline. Hosted by an MC, propelled by a DJ and arbitrated by a jury, this battle offers a series of dance solo competitions, improvised according to strict instructions. In 2024, JOAT brings together the electrifying ingredients of these energetic evenings to create a show intended to reach audiences across the province: JOAT on tour.
