Honne Dohrmann was born in 1960 in Osterholz-Scharmbeck near Bremen. He studied German linguistics, journalism and theater in Göttingen and at the Freie Universität of Berlin. He then worked as a freelance sports journalist for RIAS TV and NDR. In 1992, Honne Dohrmann became program coordinator for the Oldenburg Kulturtage, moving into theater and, later, dance. It was during this phase that his international networking began as he joined IETM, which today is one of the world's largest performing arts associations with over 450 member organizations in 50 countries. 

Honne Dohrmann has worked as artistic director and dramaturge for numerous dance and theater festivals, including LAOKOON - the Kampnagel Summer Festival (Hamburg), PRISMA (Oldenburg) and POLY ZENTRAL (Hamburg). More recently, from 1998 to 2013, he co-directed the TANZ Bremen Festival with Sabine Gehm. In 2016 and 2017, he guest-curated the festival's dance program at Theater im Pfalzbau Ludwigshafen. For the 2014-2015 season, Honne Dohrmann joined Staatstheater Mainz and has since directed the tanzmainz company. He is also artistic director of the Tanzmainz festival.
